About
Lampyridae was founded by Sydney Miller Milbert with the purpose of providing individualized support to gifted and twice-exptional children and their families. Lampyridae is the Latin word for firefly or lightning bug, and when Sydney noticed fireflies lighting up summer nights at her homeschool in Loudoun County, Virginia, she was drawn to them and felt a parallel between their natural luminescence and that of gifted learners.
Fireflies are magical, mysterious, and unknowingly possess a sublime quality of natural brightness. To Sydney, working with gifted and twice-exceptional learners is also filled with magic and mystery, and of course brightness — their natural intelligence, curiosity, and creativity.
Through small online classes, one-on-one consultations, and private evaluations, Sydney focuses on gifted and twice-exceptional learner's strengths and interests, while also providing support and guidance through their struggles and challenges. With this strength-based approach, gifted learners are motivated to chart their own educational path with confidence and excitement.
Sydney Miller Milbert, M.S. is a creative and innovative educator who is passionate about serving gifted learners. Sydney has taught elementary and middle school students for over 8 years through in-person and online classes, including: language arts, art, STEAM/STEM, social studies, and, her favorite: multidisciplinary, multimodal project-based learning.
While homeschooling her own gifted children, she completed a graduate program and earned a Master of Science in Gifted Special Education in 2024. In addition, she holds undergraduate degrees in marketing and design. Sydney has also recently earned certificates in the Science of Motivation, Affective Needs and Motivation for 2e Students, and Executive Functioning for Twice-Exceptional Students.
